This will be a participatory, hands-on theatre making workshop. All participants will analyze a story which has a distinct cultural perspective and study its basic elements of dramatic structure. Relevant themes will be emphasized to help participants connect them to their own experiences, which they will use to create a theatrical piece. Using the central elements of theatre-making (language/text, physicality, environment incorporation, narrative props, and liveness) participants will develop a performance honoring and engaging with self and culture. After sharings, participants will reflect on the process of creating together and generate a list of best practices for culturally engaged theatre-making.
