Buckram Hats: Tips and Tricks to Improve Your Covered Millinery

Demonstration (with some opportunities for hands on) of buckram techniques. We will look at the bonnet and the top hat shapes as examples of buckram hats and examine ways to improve upon millinery skills to make a covered hat. Techniques may include: blocking with water, blocking with steam, combining buckram with thermoplastic, wiring, choosing appropriate fabrics, working with difficult fabrics, new techniques in mulling, choosing when to glue. Students may wish to bring past projects to the session for discussion and critique.
